OXY-KEM®. As good as they claim? I wrote them asking to substantiate their advertising claims but never heard back. Hmmm…

“…SCIENTIFICALLY PROVEN TO CLEAN AND DEODORIZE GREY AND BLACK TANKS, SINKS, DRAINS AND SENSORS UP TO 500% BETTER THAN CHEMICAL, ENZYME AND FORMALDEHYDE PRODUCTS. NO OTHER PRODUCT CLEANS AND DEODORIZES HOLDING TANKS BETTER THAN OXY-KEM®.” Wow…get me some of that! Wait…not so fast!

I’m writing about OXY-CHEM® Holding Tank Treatment. The claims above were excerpted from its product packaging (photos above and below). OXY-CHEM® Holding Tank Treatment is manufactured by Advance Research Chemicals, Inc. (ARC).

I wanted to know exactly what information ARC could provide to substantiate their claim that OXY-CHEM® cleans and deodorizes up to 500% better. So, I sent them email to ask at this address I found on their web site: sales@fluoridearc.com. I wrote “I would like to know how ARC Products arrived at this conclusion. What criteria was used in making this determination? Did the company perform controlled tests of OXY-KEM® and competitive products and if so which other products were tested?“

You’d think a company in possession of information that sets their product so far above the competition–500%–would be eager to share the information that demonstrates the superiority of their product. Right? Well, I never received an answer to my question. What do you make of that? Did my email to ARC bounce? No. Did their answer go into my SPAM box? I didn’t find a reply there either. While I suppose there could be any number of reasons I received no answer to my inquiry, one possible reason could be that ARC cannot substantiate its claims because they are nothing more than advertising hyperbole. Before I leaned too far in that direction I wanted to give ARC another chance to reply to my original email so about two weeks after sending it I re-sent it. My second email also received no reply.

So, you decide. Do you think OXY-KEM® cleans and deodorizes…up to 500% better…, or do you think it’s advertising hype designed to part consumers with their money with the product being of questionable efficacy? Is the truth something else?
